Worldwide Power Demand to Reach 30,300 TWh by 2035
Worldwide Power Demand to Reach 30,300 TWh by 2035 The International Energy Agency (IEA) estimates that the world's electricity demands will go up 1.2% per year through 2035, resulting in demand of 30,300 TWh in about 25 years. Of note is that demand grew by 2% per year over the previous 27 years, implying either reduced demand or perhaps overly optimistic assumptions concerning energy conservation. About 80% of the projected growth is expected to come from developing countries like China and India due to industrial production, population growth, economic activity, and urbanization. The IEA also reports that China overtook the U.S. in 2009 as the world's largest energy user.
